Wind damage can begin before a shingle blows off
A roof does not have to lose a row of shingles before wind has done something worth checking. A lifted tab can leave the roof looking mostly intact while changing how it handles the next rain.

How shingle seals help resist wind uplift
Shingles rely on fastening and the connection between overlapping courses. The seal strip helps hold a tab down, reducing the opening where wind can get underneath it. Once the edge lifts, repeated movement can crease or tear the material even while most of the shingle remains in place.
That damage is different from a roof that has simply lost a complete shingle. A crease near the fasteners, a torn edge and a broken seal can each need attention. Seeing no bare patch from the street does not establish that the covering is sound.
Wind-driven rain also approaches the roof differently from rain falling straight down. An opening beneath a lifted edge can expose layers that normally stay protected. The inspection needs to assess the shingle and the connections around it, rather than just push the tab back into place.
Repairing lifted, creased or torn shingles
A lifted tab is not automatically a whole-roof replacement. The roofer needs to examine the material, its fastening and the adjoining courses. If the shingle is creased or torn, pressing it flat does not restore the damaged reinforcement.
A local repair needs sound material around it. When the surrounding shingles can be lifted and reconnected without breaking, there may be a workable boundary for limited replacement. Brittle or damaged neighboring courses can make the affected area larger.
The choice follows the condition and spread of damage. Our storm damage roofing page explains the inspection and repair decisions.

Roof inspection after a Fort Smith windstorm
After the weather passes, stay on the ground. Missing shingles, debris and a new interior stain are enough reason to contact a roofer. Avoid areas beneath sagging ceilings, and keep away from downed lines.
A weather report can help establish when damaging conditions were nearby. It does not prove damage at an individual house. Inspection findings describe the roof now; an insurer separately considers the event and policy when deciding a claim.
If insurance is part of the question, the Arkansas roof claim guide explains the deductible and why the first payment can differ from the approved replacement amount.
Have wind-damaged roofing checked
Missing material, a changed roof edge or a new interior stain is enough reason to request a free inspection. Stay on the ground and tell us what you noticed.
